The Perfect Setting
Barcovan Golf Club was designed in 1964 and has been a family-owned business since 1973. Currently, it is owned by John McFadden and Greg and Linda Shephard. It is situated on 150 acres of treed woodland and is just north of Lake Ontario and Weller’s Bay inlet. It offers a great manicured course featuring fast but true greens and a challenging design utilizing water on more than ten holes. Its layout and landscape is ideal for walkers but if you prefer to ride, golf carts are available. There are 4 sets of tees to choose from which makes Barcovan the perfect choice for players of all abilities.
The Barcovan and Weller’s Bay areas were originally hunting and fishing grounds for the Cayuga Indians. In the 17th century, the area was settled by French Missionaries, and quickly developed due to the abundance of fish and furs. Located by the isthmus joining Prince Edward County, the Kente Portage Road is the oldest continuously used road in Ontario and was a strategic point for aboriginals and later British soldiers at Fort Kente. Barcovan lends its name to the infamous bar on the cove, run by Mr. Asa Weller in the 18th century. Since then the area has become a local favourite for its scenic and calm waters, secluded beaches, breathtaking bird watching trails and great fishing.
The Municipality of Quinte West was incorporated in 1998, and is well-known for its rich history, natural splendor, and vibrant communities. Trenton is the commercial and political centre of the region, and home to the gateway of the world-famous Trent-Severn Waterway connecting Lake Ontario with Georgian Bay.
A beautiful island adventure, Prince Edward County is a mecca for artists, nature lovers and anyone looking for a getaway … for a weekend break or for life. Renowned for its sailing, fishing and giant sand dunes, The County also offers live theatre, artist studios and galleries, unique regional cuisine and a flourishing wine region.
